Innovation House found out what Ukrainian periodicals are included in the Web of Science and Scopus scientific databases, and why it is prestigious to be published there.
Article in the scientific journal is one of the mandatory requirements for the presentation of Candidate’s or Doctoral theses. However, the realities of Ukrainian life show that the availability of publications does not necessarily mean the high level of scientist.
According to Nana Voitenko, Member of the Scientific Committee of the National Council for Science & Technology Development, requirements to scientific publications are very low. Publications are poorly reviewed and often have no scientific value. Unfair scientists take advantage of this situation and present their theses based on doubtful articles.
It does not mean that Ukraine has no prestigious journals. 98 out of more than 2,000 scientific periodicals registered in Ukraine are included in Scopus and Web of Science scientometric databases.
Web of Science is known for thorough and careful reviewing of scientific articles. These reviews are performed prior to research inclusion into the database. As of the beginning of 2018, it consisted of 8,300 journals on 150 disciplines, inclusive of 64 Ukrainian publications.
Scopus, for its part, is considered to be world’s largest database that may monitor scientific citation of publications. As of January 2018, it contains more than 50 million core records, divided into 27 thematic chapters, divided into 335 subsections. 18,000 titles of scientific publications are indexed in the database.
There is no need for you to turn to foreign periodicals to publish your work or research in internationally recognized journal
Not all the journals that shall be looked up to by fellow-professionals are located in the capital of Ukraine: some journals are being published in Lviv, Dnipro, Zaporizhia, Sumy, Poltava, Odesa, and even in Melitopol.
Both techies and humanities scholars may make their researchers public in such journals. In addition to mathematical and physical journals, the list contains Ukrainian geological journals, journals about psychology and pedagogics.
