The National Bank of Ukraine has developed mobile application “Ukrainian hryvnia”, in which it combined all the information about the protective elements of 100 and 500 UAH banknotes ($4 and $20 respectively).
Prior to this, information about the appearance and protective elements of banknotes was placed on NBU website only, and was distributed in printed form in branches of banks, post offices, governmental bodies.
This app will let you take a close look at over 20 elements that protect banknotes against forgery.
Each element is clickable: you may examine it close up, like with a magnifying glass, simulate ultraviolet and sunlight exposure. Moreover, app has kinematic effects, elements that can be touched.
Thus far it is impossible to verify the authenticity of banknotes using the app.
However, according to Volodymyr Nahorniuk, Head of IT Department of NBU, such a functional may be implemented in the future. “We are working towards this goal and study such an opportunity”, – said he.
App development was done solely by NBU experts – IT Department in cooperation with Money Turnover Department.
